As part of Coffey's team, UrbanEmerge is responsible for reviewing progress made by the Ethiopian Investment Advisory Facility (implemented by McKinsey and UN Habitat) on the industrial park and urban development components, over the 4 years of the programme. Explored issues of supporting infrastructure of the parks, the PPP regulatory environment and investment by foreign entities (including Chinese companies), worker accommodation and how it links to wider urban areas, and linkages of parks to local economic growth and value chains. The urban development component is being implemented by UN Habitat and consists of developing a new City Structure Plan for Hawassa, including detailed sub-sector strategies relating to solid waste management, transport and environmental management.
